A fragment of Haruki Murakami's novel “1Q84” says that “The moon had been observing the earth close-up longer than anyone. It must have witnessed all of the phenomena ocurring – and all of the acts carried out – on this earth.” Inspired by this quote I have imagined a project which shows the moon phases in 2020, each day being represented by it's corresponding moon phase (new moon, first quarter, full moon, third quarter) and having inscribed an important event ocurred then – historical, geographical, scientific, cultural, social, political, economic etc. “Phases 2020” is a form of an artistic chronique, 2020 being so far the most challenging year of the 21st century. The outcome of my endeavour is devoid of the pretence of having exhausted the research sources, so that the scientific approach has an artistic purpose all the way through.
