Bond

In the individual and profound search for oneself, the quest for the lost world follows, equally and paradoxically, two paths: identity and alterity. In this work I investigate my identity across the spiritual territory that I share with my mother, a unique place defined by joint memories, feelings, thoughts and experiences.

The braid, which here also stands for the umbilical cord, is the metaphor for this common territory where the two existences intertwine. In relation to my mother, my identity is shaped through a strong and indestructible bond, with its specific spacetime particularities. What matters is what unites and brings together, leaving aside the differences, marking the connection.

Another symbolism nested in the hair braid is the repetition of life – it is an old oriental belief that parents live on through their children’s hair. This means the negation of death, through the perpetuation of life, emphasizing the metaphor for identity.
